What advice services does JCWI offer?

JCWI has more than 50 years' experience fighting for justice for those who are vulnerable. We deal with all areas of asylum and immigration law and we are recognised as experts in this field.

We employ five solicitors and our legal team represents clients at all stages of the legal process, including:

  • Applications to the Home Office
  • Entry Clearance
  • Appeals
  • Judicial Review

Since September 2018 we are also able to provide advice to detainees held at Yarls' Wood IRC.

We are proud of our high success rate and we have a reputation for dealing with complex issues, and challenging policy where necessary. Our Legal Director, Nicola Burgess, has been recognised as a leading practitioner by Chambers & Partners. The quality of our legal work is subject to a periodic peer review carried out on behalf of the Legal Aid Agency. In 2018, the quality of our legal work was found to be excellent (the highest possible rating).

What if I'm in detention or in prison?

JCWI have a contract to work with people who are detained at Yarl's Wood IRC. However, we are limited by the Legal Aid Agency as to how many clients we can take on from Yarl's Wood. People who are currently detained there and would like to find out more should get in touch with us directly by phone on 020 7251 8708.

JCWI are also able to represent clients who are detained in prison, whether serving their criminal sentences or detained under immigration powers. We have considerable experience of assisting with unlawful detention claims in the higher courts, and have a proven track record in winning appeals against deportation. Our dedicated team would be happy to arrange a legal visit to see you in prison (dependent on location and distance from our offices). Please contact us by phone on 020 7251 8708.
