Laura Smith is a solicitor and legal team supervisor at JCWI. She has worked extensively on asylum law and has particular expertise in asylum cases for persecuted political activists.  

She represented clients in KK and RS (Sur place activities, risk) Sri Lanka (CG) [2021] UKUT 130 (IAC) and DH (Particular Social Group: Mental Health) Afghanistan [2020] UKUT 223 (IAC). 

In 2021 Laura hosted an open workshop on mental health in asylum cases, with well over 100 delegates in attendance.

She joined JCWI in 2019 from Duncan Lewis.
