The fight for migrants' rights is at a crossroads. In Westminster, many of our politicians seem committed to making the UK an ever more hostile place for migrants, whatever the cost. And yet, local communities and decision-makers in all corners of the UK are increasingly standing up and resisting. Communities are sending a clear message of welcome to people making the UK their home.

It's clear that local communities and local decision-makers across the UK have the power and the will to stand in solidarity with migrants, and fight for a better world for all of us. That's why JCWI is proud to be supporting the Migrant Champions Network.

The Migrant Champions Network brings local councillors together to champion the rights of migrants in their local areas and beyond. The network is an independent group of local councillors from across the political spectrum and from different parts of the UK, supported by JCWI.

Together, we can achieve so much. When the central government announced its cruel plans to deport asylum-seekers to Rwanda, 300 local councillors from all over the UK and across different parties came together to reject the callous plans, and instead call for communities of welcome. And as we face the new challenges to come, we must come together to organise, and to build supportive communities where everyone can thrive.

Join us on 23 February 2023 at 18:00 to learn more about the network and how you can get involved! Everyone is welcome, from local councillors to community members keen to learn more about how to fight for migrants' rights locally.

The event will take place on Zoom, and is free to attend. If you have any accessibility requirements, or there is anything we can do to make it easier for you to join us, please contact us by contacting [email protected].
